At Abahna, our tagline - Fragrant journeys inspired by the world - is more than a philosophy; it is a way of travelling, observing, and translating place into ritual. This winter, our wanderings led us to Morocco, a country where colour, craftsmanship, and scent exist in rich, effortless harmony. From the hum of the souks to the stillness of tiled courtyards, Morocco offered a masterclass in sensory layering, one that will continue to influence our world long after we returned home.

We spent our days wandering the labyrinthine streets of Marrakech, where every turn revealed a new texture or tone. Intricately laid zellige tiles shimmered in the winter light, their geometric precision contrasting beautifully with the joyful chaos of spice markets nearby. Sacks of cumin, saffron, and rose petals perfumed the air, while woven rugs and hand-thrown ceramics told stories of heritage and handcraft passed down through generations.

The Patterns

Moroccan design is deeply rhythmic - repeating motifs, interlaced geometry, and soft symmetry found in riads hidden behind unassuming doors. These influences have informed our own approach to design, inspiring patterns that feel balanced, calming, and quietly intricate, much like the private courtyards we returned to each evening.

The Palette

Colour in Morocco is never accidental. We found ourselves captivated by the burnt terracotta walls glowing at golden hour, dusty ochres softened by age, and the unmistakable brilliance of Majorelle Blue - vivid yet grounding. This palette has found its way into our creative mood boards, celebrating warmth, sun-baked textures, and moments of unexpected vibrancy.

The Scent

Perhaps most evocative of all was the scent of Morocco itself. Orange blossom trees in bloom filled the air with a soft, uplifting sweetness, while the smoky depth of Atlas cedarwood lingered in traditional hammams. Notes of honeyed rose water appeared everywhere - from pastries to perfumed fountains. These olfactory impressions echo the way we think about fragrance: layered, transportive, and emotionally resonant.

Beyond inspiration, we also found moments of true restoration. A day spent by the pool at Beldi Country Club offered calm away from the city’s energy, while evenings at El Fenn’s rooftop reminded us of the power of atmosphere - candlelight, warmth, and conversation under a vast Moroccan sky. Dinners at Le Salama, particularly on the rooftop, blended food, music, and setting into an experience that lingered long after the last course.

Morocco reminded us why travel remains such an essential part of Abahna’s story. It is not about recreating places, but about capturing how they feel - and bringing that sense of sanctuary home, into the rituals of everyday life.
